Sunderland AFC is a football club from the city of Sunderland in northeast England. The team called the Black Cats and Mackems. The big rivals are Newcastle United. They also have a minor rivalry with Middlesbrough FC.
In October 1879 the club was founded by an educational session conducted by the Scotsman James Allan. In 1885 became the club professional. Originally the club played in blue shirts. A few years later, the classic red-white-striped shirts come. On 29 April 2007, after round 45 of 46 in the English second division Sunderland secured promotion to the Premier League spot.
